Barton Rovers Pitches Under Threat

15/2/2018

Central Beds council have identified the football pitches at Barton as development land for 166 new houses, as part of their Local Plan, with no firm commitment to relocate us. This is a major threat to the existence of the club, and of course the loss of the facility for all of us. We need to object to this development urgently, as the deadline for objections is next Tuesday 20th February 2018

SAVE BARTON ROVERSSTOP OUR PITCHES FROM BEING DESTROYED
What Is Being Proposed?
Luton Road Sports Field is used by Barton Rovers and Barton Rovers Youth Football Clubs, it is 17 acres of green open space currently set out as 11 football pitches along with a changing pavilion.
These facilities were originally built using s106 money to compensate / enhance the village on the back of the Grange Road estate village extension development some years back.
The site has been further enhanced by grants from The Football Foundation and The Lottery Fund to build the pavilion and also install vital drainage.
Central Bedfordshire Council want to concrete over this green space with 166 new houses as part of their Local Plan
There are NO proposed relocation sites being put forward by Central Beds, they are relying on developers to provide an alternative site!

How Will It Affect Us?
Barton Rovers and Barton Rovers Youth currently run 22 teams that use the pitches at the Sports Field.
This affects over 300 registered players, ranging in age from 10 years old to adults.
If this development goes ahead, without a full and complete replacement of the facility, then 300 children will lose their football club, as well the loss of valuable accessible open space for the enjoyment of the community.
Other local organisations that use the facility include Ramsey Manor Football Club, who traditionally stage their annual football festival on the pitches.
The Chiltern Youth Football League use the facility for their end of season cup finals days, which attract dozens of teams of all ages from all over the area.
The Bedfordshire Youth Football League have also staged their cup finals at the facility.
This will not only affect the people of Barton, but will affect football teams from all over Bedfordshire, who will lose access to a fantastic set of football pitches.

How To Object
You can object to this development in the following ways:
  • Complete the online objection form
  • For people aged 18 and younger, there is also an online objection form -please encourage players from all clubs to fill this in!
  • Download the forms from the links below, complete the form and return it to your team manager, Purrfect Pet Shop in Barton (next to Co-op) or you can scan it and email it to:info@savebartonrovers.com
  • Vist Central Bedfordshire Council Local Plan website

Announcement..!

Spread the news.
Following consultations with Chiltern Youth League Teams the committee have looked at the feedback and can announce that for next season 2018/19 the Under 14 section will move to the morning section (KO 10.30am).

Part of the decision was based on referee coverage and we hope this will alleviate some of the issues we have seen over the past few seasons in the PM section with coverage of games..
We will of course monitor throughout the 2018/19 season the move and look at the pros one cons as the season progresses.

Get Things Right Awards

2/2/2018

Chiltern Youth Football League - 'Get Things Right' Awards.
At Monday's night full council meeting we announced a new initiative for the member clubs of the league, to recognise those teams who, "Get things right".

This is a new award introduced thanks to the support of our sponsors M&S Water Services Limited who have kindly extended their sponsorship deal to incorporate additional funding for this new initiative.

These awards will be a new Mitre match day football, printed with our sponsors logo on and will be presented to those teams, on a monthly basis, who we feel as a committee are doing things the right way.

We will be looking across all age groups and selecting those teams who we think deserve to be recognised for doing the right things and then one of our committee members will come along to a game and present the team with the award.

So keep checking our page for the first winning teams starting in February.
Good luck to you all.
